🪞 Reflection:

I was consuming a lot of emotional art in order to help me process the death of my aunt during COVID-19 lockdown times of 2020-22. What helped me process the grief I was experiencing was watching Berserk, a fantasy anime with heavy philosophical/existential tones. Who are we at the core? What helps us become actors in the world? Are we all grieving monsters?

I did become a monster in grief, for my aunt was a community figure and so young still.

I shed my tears and spent time in my shell, I felt a change coming but did not know what would come out. Am I still a monster or am I something else? What started to seep out was the awareness of the world around me… We are all monsters, we all have the capacity, but we have the ability to create new paths for the ones who come after.

I am a monster still but I try to be kind to my fellow man, that is the change that emerged. I came out of a gruesome egg and my metamorphosis seems never ending. I’m a monster still but the babies and the young look up to me, see what I have accomplished with no tools at my birth. We were born in poor blood but we don’t have to thirst for it. My aunt was a monster too but one brimming with kindness. I’m a monster still.
