📜 Caption :
I usually get asked why I portray pain and suffering with bright colors. Its because bright colors literally hurt me when I look at them. These colors visually clash and give me the feeling of burns, they make my eyes water. But I keep looking at them until I see after images when I look away, literal ghosts of color.
.
In the year 2020 I’m learning to welcome pain again because pleasure and wonder soon follow. It has been a struggle to reconnect with my needs because I considered them distractions.
.
In the year 2020 the eyes of the peacock has guided me, teaching me to intimidate those who feel burned by me and attract those who see past false eyes.
.
I just need a gentle hand sometimes but other than that I’m mostly OK.
🪞 Reflection :
Around this time I found out a family member was hospitalized. The last time I heard news like that was in the early 2000’s, I was a child then and I did not understand the gravity of such an event nor could I comprehend the emotional toll.
The news was a little disorienting and I felt like the world was de-materializing before me. Nobody around me seemed to have any good news.
I was also spending a lot of time online, in particular on my phone. It felt like watching two extremes of a pendulum, some people where sharing their raw despair whereas others shared the things that brought them pleasure.
I shared this news online and shortly after I shared this piece. I was attempting to communicate the emotions I was experiencing while also doing something I love, I made art that shares symbols I have found powerful and inspiring.
Eyes, Peacock Palette, Crying.
Awareness, Attention, Emotion.
Upon sharing my art online I found that I had a community of people who could relate. It was a good time to have decided to participate in the World.
